Minutes of the November 2nd, 2011 Meeting

The Morris County Fire Prevention Association

 

The meeting was called to order at 10:05 AM by President Michael Pellek who welcomed all 16 in attendance.  A flag salute and moment of silence followed.  President Pellek read a letter of thanks from Jessie Tredinnick, the winner of the 2011 NJ Fire Prevention Poster Contest from Morris Knolls high school.

 

Paul Elenio gave both the October and the November State Reports -- attached.  Paul also mentioned that George Cramer is retiring and he will bring him to the December Holiday Party/Meeting.

 

The Forest Fire Service reported that this next Thursday, 11/10/11, appointments will be made.

 

Dave Barter for the County Fire Marshal reported that Parks Maintenance has been consolidated. At places where we are used to there being workers all the time there will only be people some of the time.

 

Rich Silva, NJFPPA Vice President, stated that in his opinion the Division will stay the same and not be broken up. John Drucker spoke supporting the Division at the last Fire & Safety Commission Meeting.

 

The Pub Ed meeting is this Thursday, 11/3/11, at the Middlesex Academy.

 

Secretary Babcock was asked to send out with the minutes the current Code Proposals. Tom McIntyre will get them to Craig.

 

Old Business:

 

President Pellek announced that the candidates for officers of the association are:

 

            President -- Dennis Lonagan and Mike Pellek

            Vice President -- Vinnie Corsaro

            Secretary -- Craig Babcock

            Treasurer -- Ed Nunn

 

President Pellek will contact Tim Culver and arrange for email ballots like last year. Paper ballots will be available at the December meeting for those members in good standing who wish to vote in that manner.

 

New Business:

 

A motion was made, seconded and passed to pay Harleyville Insurance for coverage of the Fire Safety Trailer.

 

Good and Welfare

 

Craig Babcock demonstrated sample emblems and talked about the proposal that he and Joe Mason from Rockaway Township have put together to provide emblems identifying buildings that have solar panels on their roofs -- both large buildings and residences. This proposal should be discussed at the upcoming Fire and Safety Commission meeting. This will also be on the agenda for the next Codes Advisory Council.

 

At 10:55 AM a motion was made, seconded, and passed to adjourn the meeting.

 

 The December 2011 MCFPA Meeting will be held on Wednesday December 2nd at 7:00 PM at the Madison Fire Station.  This is one half hour earlier than usual. Election of officers will occur at this event as well with both email and paper ballots counted. A buffet dinner will be served.
