Minutes of the December 2nd, 2009 Meeting

The Morris County Fire Prevention Association
The meeting was called to order at 7:43 PM by President Michael Pellek, who welcomed all 19 in attendance. There followed a flag salute and a moment of silence for those gone before us. President Pellek introduced Ed Nunn who welcomed everyone to the New Madison Fire Station. He suggested that everyone stay around after the food as he would provide a "nickel tour."
President Pellek reported on the high level of frustration at the recent County President's meeting as there was a large presence for the Division of Fire Safety who spoke at length about their accomplishments with little time given to the fire safety and code concerns of the Presidents. The County Presidents are planning to have a meeting without the DFS representatives to discuss how to proceed.
There was no report from Vice President Dennis Lonagan.
Secretary Craig Babcock explained how the email voting would work and encouraged everyone to check the membership list to be sure we had their current email address. Craig also thanked Barry Howard for his work on the web site. Craig said he had checked it before coming to the meeting and that it was looking very good.
Treasurer Marty Reynolds gave his report which was accepted as read. Marty will be stepping down at the end of the year. The candidate put forward by the nominating committee for 2010 is Ed Nunn.
A motion was made, seconded, and passed to reimburse Ed Nunn (the Madison Fire Department) for the food for this evening.
A motion was made, seconded, and passed to reimburse Craig Babcock for his attendance of the NJSFPPA annual dinner.
Paul Elenio gave the State Report – see attached report. Craig Babcock asked Paul and everyone else, if they had Lithium ion battery assembly and storage in their jurisdictions would they please get in touch with him about their situation. This is coming to Rockaway Township. Craig went on at some length about this. Paul said he would look into the storage problems and appropriate suppression systems.
Vinny Corsaro mentioned that the Forest Fire Service has made it clear that there will be no live burns until hunting season is over.
Dave Barter the County Fire Marshal’s Office reports continued progress.
Vinny Corsaro reported that Safety Town is moving forward. The County will attend the next meeting.. Vinny also reported that the last Pub Ed meeting was Thursday 11/12/09. Minutes will be forwarded by our secretary when they are received.
The Chief of the Academy and Jack Alderton are working on placement of the Fire Safety Trailer so it can be moved to Academy grounds, which Dennis Lonagan will do for us.
Barry Howard, our Web Master asked that members send him pictures so he can add them to the MCFPA site.

Good and Welfare: President Pellek asked if everyone was still good with the alternating day and night meeting schedule. Everyone present was still good with it.
Paul Elenio mentioned that City Fire Equipment Company was having another Fire Facts Seminar at Seton Hall University on January 15th on NFPA 25. Craig said he had been to the last two seminars and they were quality events with excellent food and .5 technical CEUs. He will copy and send out the flier to everyone.
The meeting was adjourned by unanimous agreement at 8:31 PM. There followed the consumption of tasty food and an underpriced tour.
The next Meeting is Wednesday January 2nd at 10:00 AM at the Morris County Public Safety Training Academy.
