Minutes of the February 3rd, 2010 Meeting
of
The Morris County Fire Prevention Association
The meeting was called to order at 7:31 PM by President Michael Pellek, who welcomed all 16 in attendance.
There was no report from Vice President Corsaro as he could not make the meeting.
Secretary Craig Babcock asked if everyone was receiving the minutes and notices. All present said they were getting the Secretary's email. A motion was made, seconded, and passed to approve the January minutes.
Treasurer Ed Nunn reported no change in our financial situation.
Paul Elenio gave the State Report which is attached. Paul warned us about group homes popping up in towns where single and two family houses have been converted often without the knowledge of the local construction or fire officials. Passaic recently had a fatal in a group home where a client set them self on fire. The local Fire Marshal had no previous knowledge of the use change of the home. Paul also said there is now a new category for the Poster Contest which is for computer generated posters.
No Forest Fire Report
No County Fire Marshal Report
Dennis Lonagan expressed his concern about a recent change in testing for certification. He said he spend over an hour on the phone with Kent Neiswender from the Division in frustration because the testing service that was testing on the 2006 IFC, the New Jersey Version, has stopped doing so and is now testing only on the full 2009 International Fire Code. Denis reported that there are two classes of students who have no way to be certified as there is no test for them to take. Two Academies including Morris have cancelled their upcoming Fire Inspector and Fire Official classes. It was agreed that Dennis, Craig and President Pellek would work together to get a letter off to our state representatives and senator.
Craig Babcock gave a brief report on the State Association.
President Pellek asked for a general consensus on whether we should hold the Golf Outing or not this year due to last year's poor turnout and the current economic situation. The general feeling was that the Golf Outing should be skipped at least for this year. Mike said he would bring it up at the day time meeting next month.
The situation with Safety Town has not changed and there still is not a specific place for our Fire Safety Trailer at the Academy. It was suggested that we just bring it to Academy grounds.
The Bylaws committee of Dennis Lonagan and Ed Nunn will develop a plan for voting in the annual election that will be centered on those who attend the last two meetings of the year and be completely anonymous.
Under Good and Welfare Paul McGrath, the CEO of City Fire told us that he hoped that we would use City Fire as a resource. They have 15 minute presentations like the one that they are doing in Essex on generator requirements as well as direct information from manufacturers. He passed out post cards introducing their new web site.
The meeting was adjourned at 8:18 PM.
The next meeting is
Wednesday March 3rd at 10:00 AM at the Morris County Public Safety Training
Academy in a room to be named later.
Respectfully submitted,
Craig Babcock
