Minutes of the February 4th, 2009 Meeting
of
The Morris County Fire Prevention Association
The meeting was called to order at 7:38 PM by President Michael Pellek, who welcomed all -- 18 in attendance. There followed a flag salute and a moment of silence for those gone before us. Mike called attention to the four handouts provided: (1) the individual membership application for the New Jersey Fire Prevention and Protection Association, (2) the nomination form for NJFP&PA Inspector of the Year Award, (3) the nomination form for the FPB of the Year Award in recognition of their outstanding public education program, and (4) an update from the Division about the right way to quote the new code.
There was no report from Vice-president Dennis Lonagan who was unable to attend the meeting.
Secretary Babcock gave his report mentioning a note he received from Rich Silvia, the NJFP&PA Northern Region Vice-president, who could not make tonight’s meeting but plans to come another time. The Secretary also talked about a welcome expansion of his Quick Codes for the 2006 IFC, the NJ Edition, which he received from Janet Lake, the Fire Official of Bernard Township. Craig asked if others would like to receive it or were they getting tired of receiving his recently frequent emails. Consensus was to send it to everyone.
Treasurer Marty Reynolds gave his report. A motion to accept the report was made seconded, and approved.
A motion was made by Ray Stromberg, seconded by Jim Miller, and approved by those present to pay an outstanding bill to the Netcong Fire Co. #2 for $50 to pay for liquid refreshments consumed at the Holiday Party.
State Report: Paul Elenio gave a lengthy state report which is attached. Paul also read Lou Kramer’s missive about the Division being the only one who interprets the code. This is available through the portal. Anyone with questions now should give it a week as the one person assigned to answer code questions is in Florida on vacation.
Dale Carey from the Forest Fire Service told us he would be contacting the towns where prescribed burns will take place well before they happen. He also encouraged Morris County LEA’s to put in for grant money to purchase brush or forest fire related equipment through a grant from the Forest Fire Service. Go to their web site for more information.
New Jersey Fire Prevention and Protection Association – a report was given of the January meeting by Craig Babcock who attended that meeting. The next meeting is March 5th at 10:00 AM at the Middlesex County Academy
Mike Pellek reported that he is awaiting a written agreement from Kinnelon regarding their donating their Fire Safety Trailer to us. He hopes to hear more in the coming weeks.
County Fire Marshal Scott Digiralomo told us that whenever a local Fire Marshal investigates an incident at a county building, if you see something, call the county and they will be glad to reply.
Old Business:
Marty Reynolds reported that the new 6 foot blue-with- gold-letters Association banner has been ordered. We are awaiting delivery.
New Business: None
The meeting was adjourned at 8:31 PM on a motion by Pete Schroder, seconded by Ray Stromberg, and passed by those present.
The next meeting is Wednesday March 4th at 10 AM at the Morris County Public Safety Training Academy. This meeting will include a short presentation on cooking suppression systems.
