Morris County Fire Prevention Association

 

Minutes of the 6th of  February 2008 meeting

 

 

The meeting was called to order by President Mike Pellek at 7:42 PM at the Public Safety Training Academy.

 

The Presidents Report was given by Mike Pellek, thanking all those present for coming and supporting the Association.

 

The Secretary's Report was given by Craig Babcock, mentioning the importance of accurate email addressees as all correspondence from the association is by email.

 

The Treasurer Report was given by Marty Reynolds that there is            

                                                            $2553.50 in the checking account

                                                           $18,849.39 in the savings account

A motion was made to accept the treasurer's report, seconded, and passed.

 

Paul Elenio gave a lengthy Division Report.  He stressed that if we have code questions that we should call our regional representative George Cramer at 609-306-9434 (cell) or 609-633-6112 (o).  Paul Elenio is also available at 609-947-7524 (cell) or 609-633-6112 (o).

 

The Forest Fire Service Report was given by Dale Carey with handouts.  He has several burns planned as soon as it dries out, one in Jefferson, and one in the Hackettstown Area.  He will let nearby Fire Officials know the exact date as soon as he knows so they will not have to wonder if their world is on fire.

 

The County Fire Marshall's Report was given by Scott Di Giralomo mentioning the continuing progress they are making.  He asked for the sense-of-the-membership on a question concerning radiation detectors. "Would members be willing to wear portable radiation detectors provided by Homeland Security while doing fire inspections?" Send your input directly to Scott at sdigiralomo@co.morris.nj.us.

 

The State Fire Prevention Association Report was given by Rich Heimbach.  We will have five members from our association -- the Association Officers and Rich Heimbach.

 

The Public Education Report was given by Vinnie Corsaro.  Anyone interested in participating in the Fire Bowl should contact Vinnie soon at vcorsaro@jeffersontownship.net.

 

Master Planning Report was given by Rich Heimbach mentioning that the 2007 Morris County NIFRS compliance report is now available as is information on regulations specifying how long records must be kept.

 

Code Advisory Council Report -- We currently have no one from Morris County serving on the Council.  If you are interested and willing to put in the time -- some meetings last eight hours -- submit your resume to Charles W. Schiling.  He is not reachable by email.  Contact Rich Heimbach at  Lo39@aol.com to learn how to get in touch with Mr. Schiling..

 

 

Safety Town, Vinnie Corsaro reported, is on hold as the building they have been counting on is unfit to be occupied and no longer available.

 

Fire Safety Trailer -- Mike Pellek reported that the Golf Outing remains the primary fund raiser for the future purchase of the trailer. Fliers for the Outing will be available at the next meeting.

 

Poster Contest -- Ian Bell reported that it is coming up. Morris County's entries are due at the State by the end of April.

 

Web Site -- Craig Babcock reported for Barry Howard, who was on duty tonight, that our web site has been revised to include the 2008 meeting dates, the list of current officers, and that the site will include each months meeting minutes as they become available.  If you have fire pictures, fire safety information or announcements you would like to see on the web site please submit them to Barry Howard at www.mcfpa.net.

 

Bylaws -- President Pellek stated that he has asked Ed Nunn to continue the revision process.

 

Old Business -- none

 

New Business -- Rich Heimbach expressed his concern that the State Association is promoting a change in their bylaws which would eliminate regional vice presidents and that they have left Morris County out of many discussions.

 

A motion was made for the Association Treasurer to pay the State Association for our membership as a group for $125.  The motion was seconded and passed.

 

Good and Welfare -- Jim Miller mentioned that the Sprinkler Fitters Union based in Millburn has a sprinkler trailer which may be available for use at the 4H fair this year.  He agreed to look into it and get back to us.

 

The next meeting is a day meeting at 10:00 AM Wednesday March 5th at the Public Safety Training Academy.

 

Motion was made and seconded to end the meeting which passed.

 

The meeting was adjourned at 9:04 PM.
