Minutes of the March 3rd, 2010 Meeting
of
The Morris County Fire Prevention Association
The meeting was called to order at 10:01 AM by President Michael Pellek, who welcomed all 17 in attendance.
There was no report from Vice President Corsaro.
Secretary Craig Babcock asked if everyone was receiving the minutes and notices. All present said they were getting the Secretary's email. A motion was made, seconded, and passed to approve the February minutes. Craig noted that he had attended the Tri-County Association Meeting (Union, Hudson, and Essex) in West Caldwell yesterday. The Essex County Association asked for support for Bill A1855 which is a legislative expansion of the powers and jurisdiction of municipal arson investigators. There is a Training the Trainer Juvenile Firesetting event at the Bergen County Fire Academy on April 7th, 2010. There cost is $20 which includes a box lunch. Registration can be made at www.firemarshals.org using Visa or MasterCard. This should happen at least four weeks before the event -- March 10th. A brochure on Propane Barbecue Grilling Safety is available from the Division. Send you local insignia to Jerry Clark at the DFS and he will send you back a pdf file with it included so you can reproduce it. Craig was asked to include the state association web site address in the minutes. It is www.njfppa.org.
Treasurer Ed Nunn, who was unable to attend, submitted his report through Secretary Babcock.
Paul Elenio gave the State Report which is attached.
County Fire Marshal Report, given by Dave Barter, included that there are planned burns in the works for Chester Township and that there remain a few Knox Box issues which are expected to be resolve soon.
The Forest Fire Service Report, given by Deale Carey, was that ADCATS, air support, will be available this year from March 27th through May 5th. The bonfire limit is 5'x5'x5' and requires a permit from both the Forest Fire Service and the local official.
The Golf Outing was tabled for this year. President Pellek reported that the evening meeting has suggested that the event be skipped for at least a year, due to poor turnout this last year and the current economic situation.
Our Fire Safety Trailer finally has a home on the Academy Fire Ground, just to the left when you go through the gate. Kinnelon Fire Department needs to pass a resolution and we need to send a letter. Hopefully we will have the trailer here within a month. Dennis Lonagan suggested that a committee be put together to prepare the fire ground to accept the trailer and to put together a budget. President Pellek appointed Dennis Lonagan, Harry Barany, and himself.
Posters will be judged at the April meeting. Please bring yours to the meeting
Dennis Lonagan and Ed Nunn, the By-laws Committee, ask that you get your concerns to them.
There was no Old Business.
Under New Business:
A motion passed which was made by Vinnie Corsaro, seconded by Dennis Lonagan, authorizing the Treasurer to pay $44 to rent our Post Office Box for one year.
Under Good and Welfare Paul McGrath, the CEO of City Fire, told us that, at a recent meeting he attended of fire insurance executives, it has noted that "Big Ass Fans," interfere with suppression systems Many of us have these fans in warehouses in our jurisdictions. He also said he hoped that we would take advantage of the free 15 minute presentations that City Fire can provide, like the RJ Controls presentation on generator maintenance recently presented at an Essex County Association meeting.
A smiling Marty Reynolds informed us that he has 7 days to go as Dover Fire Official, followed by the rest of his life.
The meeting was adjourned at 11:03 am.
The next meeting is
Wednesday April 7th at 7:30PM at the Morris County Public Safety Training
Academy in a room to be named later.
Respectfully submitted,
Craig Babcock
