Morris County Fire Prevention Association

Minutes of the April 2nd, 2008 Meeting

The April Meeting was called to order at 7:33 PM by President Mike Pellek.  There were 16 members present.

The Secretary’s Report was given by Secretary Craig Babcock.  He checked to see if all present were receiving the minutes and notifications via email.  They are.  Craig noted that he had received notification from the State Association at 2 PM this afternoon that tomorrow’s meeting has been rescheduled to the 29th of April with no location noted.  Craig also clarified that our five NJFPPA members are the officers and Rich Heimbach.  Their applications and a check have long since been submitted to the State Association.

The Treasure’s report was given by Treasurer Marty Reynolds as follows:

The checking account began March with a balance of    $2763.50

                                                                                    Minus           165.00 in expenses and

                                                                                    Plus               405.00 in deposits

For an ending balance of          $3003.50

The savings account began March with a balance of   $18,858.61

                                                                                    Plus                  4.79   in interest

For an ending balance of        $18,863.40

Marty also noted that The Bank of New York has started to charge $16 per month for services.  He will meet with them tomorrow.  A motion was made by Rich Heimbach and seconded by Ian Bell to accept the Treasurer’s Report which passed.

The County Fire Marshall’s Report was given by Dave Barter.  He stated that the County will provide duel Knox Boxes for all county buildings with one key for the county and one key for the municipality.  If you have questions about this program for county buildings in your jurisdiction you should contact Craig Goss at 973-829-8199 at the County Fire Marshall’s Office or leave a message at OEM at 973-829-8600.

The Master Planning Report was given by Rich Heimbach who stated that they are pursuing three initiatives: state web site access for fire officials, sprinklers in one and two family homes, and the renaming of “non-life hazard” to something else so they will get inspected annually.  The latter raised many questions from the members present.

Vinnie Corsaro reported on Safety Town that they have decided to purchase a fire safety trailer and a few sheds which are to be placed on the building site once the condemned current building is demolished.  Vinnie also reported that the Safety Town fund raiser this year will not be a food tasting.  It will be a gift certificate raffle which will be promoted with the help of Remax Reality.  After many years of service Vinnie is looking for someone to replace him as head of this project.  Anyone interested please contact Vinnie Corsaro at vcorsaro@jeffersontownship.net.

Mike Pellek reported that, with regards to the MCFPA Fire Safety Trailer, golf outing information packets will be available at the May meeting.  Help from the membership with the event will be greatly appreciated.

Ian Bell asked that members stay after the meeting to judge posters.  It was agreed that the June 4th meeting would serve to honor the poster award winners.  That meeting is to be held at the Public Service Training Academy at 7:30 PM.  President Pellek asked that Secretary Babcock get this information to Barry Howard so this special meeting can be placed on the web site.  Mike also asked that members attend the June meeting in uniform.

There was no OLD BUSINESS.

Under NEW BUSINESS Rich Heimbach made a motion seconded by Joe Serecchia that Phil Wilk be provided with a budget of up to $700 for the purchase of fire safety handouts for the 4 H fair this year.  The motion passed.

Dave Barter, from the County Fire Marshall’s Office was reminded by Rich Heimbach that the County Fire Marshall had stated that they would not be able to provide financial support for this event but that they could provide manpower.

Under GOOD AND WELFARE   Craig Babcock regretted to announce the passing of Rockaway Township Fire Marshall Jim Miller’s mother.  President Pellek asked Secretary Babcock to send a card to Jim Miller expressing the Association’s condolences.

The meeting was adjourned at 9:08 PM.

Respectfully submitted,

Craig Babcock

MCFPA Secretary
