Minutes of the May 4th, 2011 Meeting

The Morris County Fire Prevention Association

 

The meeting was called to order at 10:03 AM by President Michael Pellek who welcomed and thanked all 27 in attendance.  A flag salute and moment of silence followed.  The President asked Secretary Babcock to introduce the two new members present.  From the Rockaway Township FPB Scott Kotteles and Jack Elko were introduced and welcomed.  President Pellek stated that there will be a County Presidents meeting in June. 

 

The Secretary's Report stated that there have been 10 positive responses to participating in the NJ-IAAI Fire Investigation Course this September at the Morris County Public Safety Training Academy.  Bob Westdyk, our NJ-IAAI Director for Northern NJ, said he had 5 from Passaic so the course is a go.  The application will be posted on the NJ-IAAI web site, www.njiaai.org, and distributed by the MCFPA Secretary.  President Pellek noted that the MCFPA will support the classes and probably supply lunch for the two Saturday classes.

 

The Treasurer's Report was read by Capt. Ed Nunn.  A motion to accept the report was made, seconded, and passed.

 

Vice President Vinnie Corsaro on behalf of Pub Ed reported that the next meeting is on Thursday the 12th at the Middlesex Academy and the Fire Bowl itself is May 18th at Kean University.

 

Deale Carey from the Forest Fire Service announced that this is his last meeting since he is moving to the State Level.  He also announced that the new State Fire Warden is Mike Drake from Rockaway Township and the new Division Warden is Steve Holmes. Deale introduced the new regional wardens to us:

Denis Lonagan reported that he got the battery for the Fire Safety Trailer for free.  Mike Pellek said that a thank you letter and the check for one dollar to purchase the trailer was sent to Kinnelon.  The Kinnelon Fire Department's name will remain on the unit. The Trailer Committee will solicit the training program from St. Barnibus.

 

Ian Bell reported that the Morris County Poster Contest winners were selected at the May meeting - six in all. The State judging will be held at the Springfield Fire Station on May 13th.at 10 AM.  At our June 1st MCFPA Meeting our county winners will be honored at 7:00 PM --please note the earlier time.  Come to the celebration in Fire Prevention Bureau Uniforms.  The Press will be there.

 

Paul Elenio gave the State Report which is attached.  Also attached from the DFS is Bulletin: 2011-1 Fire Protection Equipment Inspections by In-House Employees.

 

Old Business:

 

The September NJ-IAAI Fire Investigation Course will use the 2011 Edition of NFPA 921 plus the workbook.

 

Under New Business:

 

Plans were made to honor a member.

 

Good and Welfare:

 

It was suggested that we provide coffee and bagels before and after the morning meetings with a similar social opportunity for the evening meetings.  The Executive board will explore this possibility.

 

A Special Presentation was given by Paul Elenio on LEA Operations.  He will send copies of forms requested by members which Craig will pass on.

 

The June 2011 MCFPA Meeting will be held on Wednesday June 1st at 7:00 PM at the Morris County Public Safety Training Academy in a room to be named later.

 

The Meeting was adjourned at 11:24 AM.
