Minutes of the July 7th, 2010 Meeting

of

The Morris County Fire Prevention Association

The meeting was called to order at 10:04 PM by President Michael Pellek, who welcomed and thanked the 9 members in attendance. There followed a flag salute and a moment of silence for those gone before us.

The Treasurer's report was given and accepted as read

Paul Elenio gave the State Report which is attached.  Also see Bulletin 2010-4 on the DFS Web Site.  Paul also suggested that we keep the DYFS phone number in our cells to report violations and that in all cases we should document, document, document!!

Forest Fire Service Report included the fact that currently no ground fires are permitted in our area.  FFS has six people retiring.  They will be filling four positions.

County Fire Marshal's Office reported that they are in the process of completing the annual alarm and sprinkler system tests.

Pub Ed and Juvenile Fire meeting/barbeque is at Camden tomorrow the 8th of July.

Safety Town reports progress.

The Fire Safety Trailer is ready to be moved and there is a place at the Academy for it.

The Poster Contest was a great success. There was one State Winner from Morris County.  Thank you goes to Ian Bell for a job very well done.

Revision of the By-Laws was discussed.  Craig reported that 12 out of 46 members acknowledged receipt of the proposed by-laws as requested of all members.  It was the consensus of those present that the system used last year, which is clearly flawed because the Secretary knows how people voted, generated the largest response for an election that we have ever had and that it is still preferable to paper ballots.  It was noted that in recent years we have had December meetings where there were insufficient members in attendance to hold an election.  Last year with the E-election 22 people voted.  It was further agreed that the discussion would continue at the next meeting which is a night meeting.  The By-Laws revision was tabled.

Jack Alderton reported that the next Fire Inspector class to be offered by the Academy will start in late August, probably the 26th with evening and occasional Saturday classes.  More information is to follow.  Current testing is on the full 2006 IFC while the class teaches the New Jersey Version of the 2006 IFC.  Craig Babcock said that he is buying both versions from ICC for the people he is sending to the class so they have a chance of passing the test.

There was no Old Business.
