COUNTY FIRE PREVENTION ASSOCIATION MEETINGS

DIVISION UPDATES – January 2009

·         The IFC 2006 NJ Edition Code Update seminars scheduled in December have been rescheduled to January 2009 dates.  The effective date of the newly adopted International Fire Code with NJ modifications is February 1, 2009.

·         The 2006 International Fire Code, New Jersey Edition is scheduled to be shipped late January.  You may place your order now to ICC at a cost of $145.00 for non-member and $116.00 member.

·         The Division has established a section on the DFS Website where 2006 IFC code questions can be submitted to DFS staff for answers.  Please look for the 2006 code book, click on it and submit your questions.

·         The 2008 Annual Report has gone paperless and was sent out electronically to all LEA’s on December 23, 2008.   Please check your electronic mail through the portal access.  The Annual Report and the LHU printout will enable FO’s to complete and return them electronically.  The inspections certification portion will need to be printed out, signed by the FO and Chief Financial Officer, notarized and mailed back to the Division.  N.J.A.C. 5:71-2.6 (a) requires every Local Enforcing Agency (LEA) to file an Annual Report by January 31 of each year. In previous years, you received via U.S. Postal Service a report package containing a blank Annual Report Form, a Life Hazard Use Printout of your LEA and a blank LHU Inspections Certification Form.  If you have any questions or require assistance, please reach out to Ms. Karen Luckie via email Karen.luckie@dca.state.nj.us, include a telephone number where you can be reached and she will contact you as soon as possible.  Results of our beta testing with working Fire Officials were very positive. They were especially pleased with the ease and efficiency of electronic reporting. The Division hopes that you will find this to be the same.

Please note: Microsoft Excel must be installed on your computer to be able to complete this report. If you do not have Microsoft Excel please contact Karen Luckie.

·         DCA employee Sylvester Swanson has retired from the Division of Fire Safety after many years of service.  Sylvester has held the position of Regulatory Officer with the DFS until his retirement.  We will miss Ves and wish him the best of luck on his retirement.
