DIVISION UPDATES – March 2010
- The Spring 2010 Courses for FO/FI, Instructors and FF’s
registration periods are as follows:
March 1 – 5 for appointed and non-appointed officials; March 8 open
registration period. Online

- New Jersey Weekend will be

- International Association of Arson
Investigators 2010 annual seminar & meeting is March 4-5, 2010 at

- Fire Service Women of New Jersey 15th
Annual Conference will be held on April 30- May 1, 2010 at the Morris

- The Fire Department Instructors
Conference will be held on April 19-24, 2010 at the Indianapolis

- The DFS 5th Annual Fire Bowl
Challenge will be held on May 20, 2010 at Kean University, 1000 Morris

- The Homeland Security & Fire Safety
Conference will be held on June 18, 2010 at Kean University, 1000 Morris

- The National Fallen Firefighters
Foundation “Everyone Goes Home Firefighter Life Safety Initiatives
Program” presents courage to be safe train-the-trainer on May 4, 2010. For

- There are currently
26 Assistance to Firefighters (AFG) Federal grants being held due to 25
fire departments not being up-to-date with their NFIRS reporting. One
department was awarded two grants – both are being withheld until their
NFIRS reports are received.
- DFS has posted three Bulletins on the NJ
Portal: Use of Torches; Fire Code
Enforcement Jurisdiction and Oxford House.
- Please review the DFS Fire Investigation
and Inspection Bulletin that illustrates the lessons learned from the
Hardwick House fire involving a non-compliant stove installation. The bulletin can be reviewed on the FO/FI
Portal.

New Jersey Division of Fire Safety, Office of the State Fire Marshal and the

Also to note that there is a new category this year for posters
created by computer graphics. Poster judges have seen an increase in those
types of entries so now there is a specific category for them.

next meeting of the New Jersey Fire Safety Commission will take place at 10 AM
on Wednesday, March 17, 2010. It will
be held at the Middlesex Fire Academy, Sayreville.
