DIVISION UPDATES – October 2011

·         The DFS has received reports of individuals posing as fire inspectors to gain access to businesses in Warren County.  We have sent out specific information concerning this matter electronically to all Fire Officials and Fire Chiefs.  If you did not receive this information, please access the notification on the portal within the Fire Official Library, and in addition, verify the DFS has your correct email address by contacting Karen Luckie at Karen.luckie@dca.state.nj.us.

·         As part of the process of renewing ICC membership for your LEA, the International Codes Council needs updated information regarding your ICC voter membership.  Please access the form on the portal within the Fire Official Library/ICC – Voter Membership folder and return it via Fax or mail no later than October 14, 2011 to:  Member Services, ICC – Birmingham District Office, 900 Montclair Road, Birmingham, AL 35213.  The Fax # is 205-591-0775.  For additional questions, please call 1-888-ICC-SAFE (422-7233) x 33804.

·         The DFS has approximately 1000 smoke detectors still available for those who wish to have free smoke detectors to distribute to members of their community who live at or below the poverty level.  The next date to pick-up smoke detectors is October 6th.  Please contact Charlie Luxton at cluxton@dca.state.nj.us for further information and scheduling.

·         It has been brought to the DFS’s attention that some banquet facilities are using non-approved proximate audience displays and open flames during their receptions and/or banquets.  FO/FI’s are reminded this activity requires approval by the FO and a Type 1 and/or Type 3 permit allowing the activity.  The regulations for flaming food and proximate audience displays are attached to this update.

·         Once again, it is the season when many individuals and organizations are creating temporary haunted houses, outdoor mazes, etc.  For your convenience, attached are the applicable provisions of the Code, and a practical tent, canopy and outdoor maze matrix.
