A meeting of the Morris County Fire Prevention Association was called to order at 10:15 AM by Pres. M. Pellek at the Morris County Police and Fire Academy in Room 118.

M. Pellek opened the meeting with a review of the hand outs present that will be discussed later in the meeting:

 

Also discussed was participation in the County National Night out program on Tuesday August 1st at the Mennen Arena from 5:00 PM – 9:00 PM.  We will be partnering next to Safety Town and the Apollo team.  Any help is appreciated.

 

Secretary – M. Pellek reported no correspondence.

Treasurer – M. Pellek reported the balances as of 6/30/06 are:

 

A motion was made by P. Wilk and seconded by R. Stromberg to acceptance the treasurer’s report as read.  Motion passed.

 

COMMITTEE REPORTS:

State Report:            P. Allen reported the division is down to 8 essential personnel working during the state shutdown.  Handed out bulletins:

2006-001 – Cooking appliances under Canopies and tents

2006-002 – Subchapter 4 Supervision of Alarm Systems; and windowless story or basements.

2006-003 – will be coming out soon regarding fire extinguishers.  It will repeal all previous bulletins and be consolidated under this one bulletin.

 

Code Council: P. Allen reported with P. Wilk that the 2006 code will now be up for adoption.  It will hopefully be adopted by 1/2007.  All fire academies would get a copy of the new code when adopted.  For now they should continue to teach the old code.

 

State Fire Prevention:            no report.

 

County Fire Marshal –  M. Pellek reported he invited Tom Craggy, the new County Fire Marshall effective Monday 7/10/2006 to the meeting.  He has been on vacation and my not have received the message yet.  Also, reported on his conversation with the Morris County Administrator as a result of last month’s meeting request for the association to report its concerns to the Freeholders.  M. Pellek expressed concern over: the lack of communication from the County on the change to the local LEAs, fire departments and having County Fire Marshal under Risk Management.  P. Allen discussed states concerns about having a third party handle the fire inspections for the county.  These concerns have been discussed with respective county officials.  P. Wilk will start working at the Fire Academy on Monday July 10th.

 

4-H FAIR:  P. Wilk reported items have been ordered from Joshua Marcus Group.  Help is needed on July 28, 29, 30.  Let him know if you can assist.

 

Fire Academy Report:  J. Alderton reported Class A burns have been initiated at the academy again.  The building needs work after every couple of burns.  Will be putting money into a capital request for the 2007 budget to help the Association get the Fire Safety Trailer.  Will clear an area on the fire grounds for the trailer when it arrives.  The Academy is piloting the Fire Fighter II course under the state guidelines.  There are some issues with the curriculum and lesson plans.  The previous FFII is now the Advanced Fire Operations class.

 

Pub. Ed.:  V. Corsaro reported the Fire Bowl was recently held.  Next meeting is in September.

 

Master Planning:  P. Wilk reported he has not officially been accepted on the committee yet.

 

Safety Town:  V. Corsaro reported the board now has 2 keys.  Plans are being revised so they can go to the town for permits.  Fund Raising signage will go up on Rt. 15 North and Berkshire Valley Rd., and a “Future Home of Safety Town” sign at the site to be put up by the County.

 

Poster Contest:  M. Pellek reported Morris County had a Winner from Vo-tech.  Paul from Parsippany will head the contest next year.  Thanked Ian and committee for work on this year’s contest and the publicity received in the local papers.

 

Web-site:  M. Pellek reported if you have any updates to get them to B. Howard.

 

Golf Outing: Need more people to play in 4-somes. Doing well with Hole sponsors but can still use more.

 

By-Law: were handed out last month for review.

 

NJ Register: V. Corsaro reported nothing recently has been published related to the Division of Fire Safety.  P. Allen reported on Legislation that has been proposed to make the current Fire Extinguisher requirement in homes a local issue.  If towns want to adopt the requirement then it would have to meet the requirements.  Not sure what the progress is on the legislative proposal.

 

OLD BUSINESS:  Bob Davidson, of the State Fire Prevention Association has sent a letter on Association letter head to the State recommending the move of Fire Prevention back under Codes and Standards.

 

NEW BUSINESS:  no report.

 

GOOD & WELFARE: B. Howard was out for a one day heart procedure.  Doing ok.
